How to overcome procrastination / How to get rid of procrastination

Procrastination word is quite heavy and its aftermath sometimes is unbearable in life. But if we break this sumptuous word in two parts here’s it “Pro” means next to or forth and “crastinus” means tomorrow. procrastinat is a Latin word originated in the late 16th century which means “deferred till morning“.The verb procrastinate means to delay or postpone the action; put off doing something.

One day my parents decided to meet my grandparents as they were missing them and also not visited them for a long time. So they told me to get ready and start the car. But I just made an excuse for being tired of my work and promised them to go tomorrow but then what was I doing, watching the Online shows. The next day around 10 am they were being ready for the journey and again I made another excuse for submitting the project to my boss. Yeah, I wanted to submit the project by the next day but one notification on my mobile just distracted me. My friends booked the movie tickets wanted me to reach there by 3:00 pm. So I got to see the movie with my friends. Returning my house around 8:00 pm, extremely tired and in the hangover. I just lied down on my bed and slept for the next 12 hours. Yeah, the morning comes to submit my project and do a presentation at 10 am. I was in hangover and very effortlessly tried to open my eyes and watching the clock made me anxious and panic. Don’t know what to do? I was absent-minded and blank and made an excuse to my boss about my bad health. Yeah, he scolded me, and my performance in the office got declined. Yet another news waiting to make me blackout completely. The demise of my grandpa has informed us of the phone call. He crashed due to a heart attack. My father was broken and continuous wailing after listening to this sad news. For a moment I thought my world turned upside down completely without giving me any signs. Or I was blind in myself and so-called my world of imagination and wonderfulness that I don’t take the responsibility properly. I was left with nothing but just to regret my actions doing from past infinite days. At this point, a thought strikes in my mind. The famous lines of Mahatma Gandhi:-

“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”

This thought sparks up my inner subconscious mind. Yeah, this is the time to remake me. But let us find the reason that makes one become a procrastinator.

Procrastination has destroyed the lives of the people. At least 60% percent of college students do not complete assignments and projects on time and approximately 50 percent of people tend to forget paying electricity bills on time, the filing income tax return, the LIC premiums, and other interests. Procrastination causes delay: delay in our planned schedule that causes more trouble and we enter the phase of the vicious cycle. Procrastination has now become a part of life like the habit, Exactly it is a bad habit and us people have given birth to this. It makes one selfish at it own higher cost and in the end, it makes us pay a huge penalty in terms of lacking self-esteem, living in fear, lacks in doing efforts, afraid to start something new, fear of losing respect and trust of people, hampering the relationship with our loved ones and at the end, we regret upon our decisions that not doing the right thing at the right time. These reasons are continuously protruding from the subconscious mind and results in the death of ideas and thoughts in an individual.

Overcoming bad habits requires time, effort, and positive energy. If all three elements combined one will surely defeat it. Here are few useful points and which when applied will shoot the enemy procrastination.

It is necessary to do planning before doing something new. A well-written plan does not allow one deviating from the path that needs to be finished on that day itself. This can be done before a night or after waking up just make a “to do a list ” and half of the work is easily completed there itself.

One needs to have a clear vision of goals and targets in his life. A confused mind can never achieve a goal. First is to find the goal of your life and know three reasons why you want to achieve that goal. Because these three reasons are going to decide the seriousness towards and achieving it. Now plan accordingly. This is will bring clarity and vision in your thoughts.

Whenever you are surrounded by a bunch of works and confused from where to start? Choose the easy one to complete it first and gradually move to the toughest one. If you have chosen the hard task first and unable to complete it then it will lead to procrastinating the latter scheduled works. So use the former step and this will help you in managing and organizing things properly.

Rewarding yourself is nowadays in trend to deal in tough situations. Rewards create interest and greed (in positive meaning) to complete things on time. Just bribe yourself or treat yourself with your favorite sweets or cakes after completing the task. Or you can also have 10 minutes break to close your eyes and meditate for a while.

A Japanese word “Ikigai” strikes my mind meaning “a reason to jump out of the bed in the morning”. Yes, Being disciplined in life brings success sooner. So every day you need to find a reason to jump out of the bed and complete the tasks on time without regretting at the end of the day. Wake up and go to sleep early, practice meditation, do certain kriyas, read life-changing books or biographies of Buddha, Mahavira, and other people.

Always ready to accept the challenges without initial predicting the result of winning or losing it. This is the first step to knock out fear. You have already won one-third of the battle by accepting the challenge. This will boost your morale and gives you the confidence to trust yourself and believe that it can be done no matter how but will be done by me. Ignoring problems will not vanish it, finding a solution is much important. These steps take one on the ladder of success

Yes, This attitude should be built gradually. It is like complete the task on time or be ashamed of yourself. This is not for demoralizing people but to make them stronger and tougher than in difficult times also you cannot give up and fight with your brain itself till the work is finished. Remember, “tomorrow never comes“.

In conclusion, I can say This bad habit must be changed not immediately but gradually. This will take time but remember Nothing is Impossible in life. If someone fastens up his seat belts and promised to his heart that he will never return in that phase again, he will not return because now he has a strong will to complete it on time and taste the flavor of success on defeating the Procrastination enemy.

How to use Menstrual Cups

Menstruation is seen as women’s bleeding or in lucid terms, her”periods” occurring every month and menstrual cycle are and hormonal cycle repeating every month when she is not pregnant. Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) is observed on every 28th of May. Menstruation is still considered as a taboo or dirty thing in some parts of India and some parts, it is honored and celebrated as a family function when the girl first starts to menstruate in her life. Choosing a healthy, safe, and hygiene product is the right of every girl and woman when it comes to their health-related matters. By using these menstrual cups every female can say and feel the line that is personally my favorite “bleed with pride.”

First let us know in simple words, what is a menstrual cup? A menstrual cup is a flexible, pliable, and funnels shaped cup made of high medical-grade silicone, latex or rubber which is inserted in the vagina and collects period blood. It’s a feminine hygiene product that comes in small and medium sizes as per the suitability and choice of the user. Unlike traditional cloth use, sanitary pads and tampons (made up of cotton or blend of cotton and rayon and then sits in the vagina) which absorb blood and need a stockpiling in house every time. High-quality cups are long-lasting that can last up to a year to 10 years if it is handled with care and stored in hygienic place and are reusable, while others are disposable after immediate use or single-use disposing cups.

  1. ECO-FRIENDLY IN NATURE – When compared to the use of tampons and sanitary pads or napkins, menstrual cups are Eco-friendly as well as sustainable in nature and hence cause much little damage to our environment.
  2. SAVING MONEY – Using a menstrual cup can save a lot of money. Exactly, the saved money can be utilized for good deeds. Recent shreds of evidence suggested for over 10 years that a single menstrual cup could cost a much meager amount than pads or tampons. A menstrual cup could cost roughly five to six percent of the cost of using 12 sanitary pads (on average $ 0.31 each) or tampons (on average $ 0.21 each) per period.
  3. LESS WASTE GENERATED IN THE ENVIRONMENT – The sanitary pads usually consist of 90% use of single plastic which is considered poison for the environment. It requires up to 800 years for disposing of completely. It is also studied that for 10 years a menstrual cup can create 0.4 – 0.5 percent of the plastic waste when compared to the single-use sanitary pads or approximately 6 percent of that produced by the use of tampons regularly.
  4. PROPER MANAGEMENT OF WASTE – It does not need proper disposable bins, just go to the toilets or washrooms and flush the period blood or pour and wash it in the sink basin properly. This helps in less waste generation and no human is required to segregate this waste (my body waste) doing manually. Additionally, less use of landfills requires to decompose such waste.
  5. EASY TO USE AND LEAKAGE PROOF – Yes, it gives me the feeling of joy. It is just very simple to use and can be inside for 6 to 12 hours as per the blood flow volume. Once fitted properly inside the vagina makes one feel as you are the same as on the other day and minimal or no chances of leakage are there. This makes one relax and calm during these hard times. I feel proud to use my education and liberal values on myself for the sake of the earth as not to become a dump yard because of such waste.

Nowadays urban metro cities women and college moving girls are using these menstrual cups on a regular interval and have noticed positive impacts in their lifestyle. If you’re a beginner so you need to talk a gynecologist and after her advice do as she says. These menstrual cups are easily available on various online selling platforms of various ranges and one can order from there. Some medical shops are also selling.

Some times women and girls find messy and difficulty in inserting these menstrual cups in the vagina part. So before purchasing these cups, one should have good knowledge about their intimate part like:

  • the size and length of the cervix (required small and medium-size cups)
  • age of women if she is below 30 years (small size cups) and above 30 age group (medium size cups)
  • dependent on the amount of blood flow if its light flow or heavy flow
  • vaginal or cervix part stretched due to giving birth to a child.
  • Before using menstrual cup sterilization of these menstrual cups must make it bacteria-free. It is needed to done every time before the insertion to avoid any infection and irritation in intimate parts.
  • Boil the menstrual cup for 3-5 minutes in a bowl and avoid touching the cups to the base of the bowl.

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly by using alcohol-based sanitizer or just simple soap and water before touching intimate areas in your menstrual days to avoid any infection.
  2. Before inserting a menstrual cup, first grease the rim of the cup with water or water-based lubricants which allow easy insertion in the vagina.
  3. Now fold the menstrual cup rim in half so its size gets reduced and inserting becomes easily.
  4. Make yourself comfortable either by sitting in a squat position or standing straight.
  5. Now take the folded menstrual cup holding the rim part and try to insert in vagina up to some distance.
  6. Once it gets inserted properly a pop-up sound or created like suction pressure feels in the vagina. This indicates that cups are placed in the right position and no chances of leakage are confirmed.

It is necessary to create suction like pressure or airtight seal in the vaginal part to avoid no or minimal leakage. If any irritation or feeling of discomfort, immediately talk to your gynecologist and try not to panic. These menstrual cups can hold up to 6 hrs without leakage and in light flow, these cups can be used for overnight protection that is up to 12 hours.

  1. Once it feels like filled change it immediately.
  2. Wash your hands thoroughly by using alcohol-based sanitizer or just simple soap and water before touching intimate areas in your menstrual days to avoid any infection.
  3. Sit in a squat or stand in any comfortable position and slowly place your index finger and thumb in the vagina, slowly and gently pull the stem of cups.
  4. Gently pinch the stem part to release the tight air seal and now remove it slowly.
  5. Throw out the content in the washbasin or flush in the toilet and wash the empty cup properly.

These menstrual cups can be used for 3 – 4 times in 24 hrs. Wash it properly and reinsert in the vagina with proper handle. Once your period days are over wash these cups properly and again sterilize it properly and store it in the container or any poly-cotton cloth bag to avoid any bacterial contact.

  1. MESSY IN USE – Some times women feel messy to handle these menstrual cups and creates trouble and get panic without reading the instructions properly.
  2. MAY CAUSE ALLERGY IN INTIMATE AREA – Without proper sterilization and proper care or keeping it for a long time may cause allergic in the vagina. If something like this happens consult your gynecologist immediately.
  3. HARD TO INSERT AND REMOVE THESE CUPS –  Women are unfamiliar with this kind of product and have a feeling of discomfort while inserting and removal of cups. But after the use of 6 – 7 times one gets familiar and easily develops the skill to insert and adjust in the vagina. But never give up and don’t switch back on those traditional methods.
  4. FINDING CORRECT FIT – The main issue why women just reject the idea of wearing menstrual cups is that they don’t get the right fit and size for the vagina. Hence, faces problems of leakage and sometimes the menstrual cups just don’t get inserted properly or if inserted they come out easily, as the airtight is not build up inside to hold the cups.

See every product has some pros and cons but that does not mean we cannot try new and environment-friendly products. I understand that some women may face problems in initials days of using menstrual cups but once they get used to it then they will love to wear and encourage more and more women and girls to try this option.

I use this and highly recommend others to wear in their period days and switch from traditional sanitary pads and tampons. Breathe fresh air and let the environment breathe fresh air.
